Climate Protection & Disaster Prevention
Bangladesh is delta considered to be highly vulnerable to natural disasters due to geographical location, weak economic capacity and low level of institutional capabilities. Southern part is the worst affected areas in Bangladesh. Due to lack of access in services, resources, information, Poor accessibility in GO & NGO relief rehabilitation, ignorance on preparedness mechanism, insufficient responsiveness of disaster management committee and lack of dalits participation & representation in different forum, decision making bodies vulnerability of dalits & excluded, ethnic increased. In order to enhance coping capacity, awareness and accessibility Parittran conducted emergency response, relief, rehabilitation support, assisting vulnerable dalits to adaptation capacity with climatic disaster by providing skill development training, vulnerable area assessment, Community risk assessment (CRA), advocacy on local issue like river and canal drainage, environment friendly shrimp farming, saline tolerant crop cultivation by mobilizing mass peoples with slogan of “We want live except relief” (Tran chai na, pran chai), community dialogue to more responsive of LGs, UDMC, CSOs, Govt. LEBs, and other related stakeholder. Parittran facilitating 200 more volunteers at Satkhira, Shyamnagar, Tala upazilla and coastal zone to response and first aid for affected peoples before, during and after disaster. In the past, Parittran has done emergency response, safe child family space during disaster, Information and climate adaptation fair, seminar and workshop, dialogue with govt. & relevant stakeholders, conducted CRA, Seasonal calendar to response disaster, Social mobilization, discussion, courtyard training, VDO documentary show, Drama campaign, publication, Rally, Human chain for climate justice, Community Voice raising to local service providers, Livelihood & food security, Networking & linkage building etc activities. Through the carried out activities are resulting 25000 dalits & excluded peoples adaptation capacity has build at coastal belt.
